Bohemian Gravity and a cappella version of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”
Brilliant. Although now I’m waiting for the “volcano version” where “MAMAAAAA” becomes “LAVAAAAAA. OOooooOOOooo!”
Quantum Queen! Brilliant way to start the day. McGill University master’s student Timothy Blais turned his thesis on three-dimensional gravity into a rock opera cover tune. He has also apparently learned to clone himself.
When you consider that Brian May is an actual astrophysicist and Freddie is named for the closest planet to the sun, this just gets better.
I mean…the ratio of work done on it to number of people who can truly appreciate it has never been lower for a YouTube video…ever. That isn’t to say that you won’t love this. I did, and I had no idea what the frak he was talking about 90% of the time.
1. dip a spoon of gallium in a glass of hot water
2. make a bubble with smoke instead of air
3. dissolve the tablet in weightlessness
4. set fire to the energy-saving lamp
5. push two identical clouds of smoke
6. create a vacuum in the empty tank
7. set fire to the smoke from the candles
8. overturn the glass with smoke
9. pour the hot solution in a plastic cup [x]
Most mad scientists in movies are actually just mad engineers
It’s always “I’ll use this gigantic laser to blow up the moon”, and never “I’ll test the effect this gigantic laser has on the moon, my hypothesis is that it will blow up”
“I’m going to test the effects of deadly neurotoxin on the island of Manhattan. The control group will be Long Island, which I will not release deadly neurotoxin upon.”
Today’s Life Science lesson
When scientists get too honest
> I would love to see more science posts on Tumblr. I particularly liked, “The postdoc who did all the work has since left to start a bakery.”
Well scientists are still human after all.
The last one slayed me omg
and this is why I didn’t pursue a science degree
Piano notes made visible for the first time
Music is beautiful isn’t it? The team at CymaScope visualized the dynamic sounds of the piano’s first strike and the eventual plateau and decay phase of different notes. You can listen to the sounds here and watch as the geometric shapes come to life.
Here is a list of the geometric glyphs for each note
Cymascope - Sound Made Visible
This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.
WHAT IF other planetary bodies orbited our world at the same distance as the moon?
Even doorknobs can be improved upon. If a door is locked it should not be available to even try and open.
This shit is dope.
No, you may not enter my room.
This doorknob says you’re not even allowed to try.
this is my answer to privacy now
